Fighting Fire

Firefighters dousing a fire on Donlands Avenue, Toronto 2010-07-06

By Stéfan.

Lured by billows of smoke and blaring sirens, a crowd gathered to watch the large fire that had engulfed a few houses. It was one of those events in which you realize you are observing a tragedy unfold.

My heart was racing and my head filled with questions. Was anybody hurt? Were there still occupants in the burning houses? What had happened? How long had the fire been burning? Were the firefighters close to getting the fire under control?

The smoke was so thick that it fully obstructed the sun rays. Teams of firefighters were hard at work battling this inferno large enough to summon firetrucks that lined the entire neighbourhood block. It was a large fire.

In the end, I was relieved to hear that no one was hurt in this tragedy.

I am grateful for the dedication and efforts of our emergency services.

Very sad to see the building completely engulfed in flames although you took some great photos!

There are fires every day somewhere in the city. Fire in a home is just terrifying to me. It can get out of control so fast!

I think fire departments do such a wonderful job and are so courageous.
